To demonstrate her true PARTY ANIMAL, Gertie decided she needed to go above and beyond.
And I can respect that.
So, we are at the boyfriend’s parents’ house. Who live next to the boyfriend’s brother. And the boyfriend’s brother has a puppy named Lily. (Gertie and Lily are alerady BFF.) Oh, yeah, I should mention the week that Gertie spent with the boyfriend’s parent’s when we went to Disneyland.
So the point is Gertie knows the joint.
And we are all over at the brother’s house, watching the sucky Chiefs. The boyfriend’s mom comes over and tells me she left Gert over at her place.
That’s fine. I mean, Gertie has had two walks and played for an hour with Lily. Not to mention all the humans she was loved by.
So I didn’t think anything of it.
Until the boyfriend’s dad exclaims “Gertie!”
Somehow she had gotten out the sliding door, hopped a fence and found us all next door.
Well, I guess it’s not a party until Gertie arrives.
At lunch I went home to let Gertie out . (I’m meeting the dog sitter extroidainaire — Ging– and J for late birthday Margaritas after work!!!)
So Gertie is doing her thing, which is stalling out for the most possible walk before she does her business. But I have outsmarted her. Mwahahaha. I have found a special place even she can’t resist.
This place requires that I walk by the office to get back home. The maintenance man (Scott, if you are reading –the one you think is hot.) comes out and asks me if I’m going straight to my car after my walk.
First thought: Oh crap. Did I park in someone else’s spot? (Why do I always think I’m in trouble?!)
Me: Um, yeah.
MM: Cool, well I’ll come out and fix your belt. Meet you at your car.
Me: Stuttering a little. Um, awesome!?
Sure enough, he sprayed some stuff on it and squeaking stopped.
Have I mentioned how much I love my apartment?
Yah, sorry Ernie. No dollars for you.
Holy cow. A post about running on a “running blog.” Now that’s something you don’t read every day.
Yesterday after sunning by the pool for two hours, with apparently sporadically placed SPF 30 Advanced Protection Against Aging, I decided I needed to go for a run. I’ve been toying with occasionally increasing the distance of my 2-3 mile runs (usually on the 2 side.) So somewhere between 3 and 4 miles, I decided that I had another mile in me. It was probably because I was still a mile away from home, but that was just poor planning.
I’ll admit, there was some walking, and a water stop or two. All in all, I was pretty proud of myself (and Gertie) for hanging in there. Maybe I’ll do it again next weekend. But no promises.
Several hours later, I realized I am sunburned in all sorts of random places.

I learned something about Gertie today.
She gets on the couch when I’m not home.
Oh wait. I knew that.
It turns out, Gertie has had company over.
And she didn’t‘ tell me?
Today when I went home at lunch to let her out (yes, she was on the couch), I ran into the maintenance man. Actually, Gertie got to him first as she was about half a flight ahead of me up the stairs. She seemed to know him, but she seems to know everyone. Apparently he knows her though. And so does his daughter. He told me he had been over several times to fix things or check on leaks with his daughter (maybe 6 or 7 years old?) and she just loves Gertie.
This doesn’t surprise me because I think she’s pretty lovable. It just makes me laugh to imagine Gertie having people drop by when I’m not home. Does she offer them a drink? Give them a tour? Show them her toys? Most likely, she rolls on her back for a belly rub.
Oh, and it’s a good thing I trust my apartment complex staff.
